Now what?

I'm still not exactly sure what to do with my DreamWidth journal. So far (as with this entry) I've mostly been just writing the same thing both here and on Livejournal, but I imagine the novelty of that will fade soon enough.

The thing about that is, most of the folks I've added to Dreamwidth's Flist-equivalent are also on my LJ Flist, so I don't want to make people read the same damn thing twice. I know some folks are giving up LJ for DW, but a lot are using both. And to be honest, I just don't have enough to say to write new and clever things for two journals, you know?

Or maybe I'm worrying for nothing. I know that I don't mind seeing the same thing in two places (I just skim or skip it the second time I see it) so maybe others don't either?

In the mean time I suppose I will continue to double-post. Because I can.

Question: if something happens to a particular post on DreamWidth that I've double-posted to LJ, does that post disappear on LJ as well? I'm assuming not, but then the internet is a dark and mysterious place.

The more I think about it, the more I'm deciding not to do anything with my DW account. I'll probably wind up deleting it. It's much of what you say here. I don't see the point.

If DW were something significantly different than LJ, I'd be more excited. But it seems like it's getting traction mostly from sour grapes users who want LJ but don't want *LJ*, and from people like me (and you, apparently) who don't have a problem with LJ but who don't want to further lose audience.

Before I heard about DW, I was already debating just getting serious about maintaining a blog on my own website. If people want to read what I have to say, they'll track me down. I reckon not a lot of people will do that. :) (My arrogance will probably make me stay here, though.)

So... whatever.... I'm not quite yet ready to commit to not going to DW, but I'm that much closer each day.

Well, the main reason I got a DW account was because a number of my LJ friends seem to be moving there--and I don't want to lose touch with them. So I'm still not sure of the best (most efficient) way to keep in touch with both the DW folks and the LJ folks other than double-posting. Will give it some thought though.

They make double-posting pretty easy for just this reason.

I'm hoping all the friends I lost due to LJ's shenanigans will turn up on DW . . . several are on InsaneJournal but that never appealed to me, and has never got very large; GreatestJournal folded, so I suspect IJ will too eventually. But I'm still running across people who don't know about DW.

In answer to your question: No, once you've posted to one or the other it's on their servers, completely independent, no quantum effects :-)
