Can't please everyone

Pagans are polytheists, at least in the sense that we acknowledge many gods. Some of us are more polytheistic than others--some are better defined as henotheistic, but that's an issue of personal practice. Some have patron or matron goddesses (or fulltrui, as the heathens say) to whom they are especially (or, sometimes, exclusively) devoted.

So, too few gods--or too much focus on a single deity--and people call it the influence of monotheism.

Too many gods--or no patron deity--and people doubt one's spiritual seriousness.

I suppose there's a happy medium there somewhere, right?

I think moderns vary in the number of gods we can "handle." One of the sad legacies of growing up in a monotheistic society. But I think anyone with a fulltrúi, or even two, who focuses on him/her/them to the exclusion of the rest of the tribe is inadvertently being disrespectful.
